Matthew Matt James was born in North Carolina on December 5 1991. The parents of Matthew Matt James are Manny James, and Patty James. He is an Nigerian mother, and an American caucasian father. He graduated in 2010 at Sanderson High School and furthered into Wake Forest University where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in economics in 2015. James gained fame when he became a reality television participant on The Bachelorette. James was picked in 2020 as the bachelor of the year on The Bachelor season 25, being the show's first African American male star. The show premiered later in the year. James's looks, height and attitude make him an ideal choice to play the role. Season ended when James chose Rachael Krkconnell for a relationship with her. In season 30 (in 2021) of Dancing with the Stars, he competed with the dancer Arnold. James as well as Arnold finished 12th.
